FAQ

Q. What is RailcarPhotos??
A. RailcarPhotos is a website dedicated to photos of North American (Canada, Mexico, and United States) railcars. We encourage our visitors to contribute photos and information to make the site more complete. This website is useful to modelers as well as historians for prototype information.

Q. What is a "roster type photo"?
A. Roster photos are photos of a single railroad railcar with no other subjects in the photo. A good rule of thumb is you must be able to read the reporting marks. It is a photograph that best portrays the railcar itself, no action, no scenery. Everyone's definition of a "roster photo" varies. RailcarPhotos is very lenient on the exact definition, as we want to include as many photos of different railcars as possible.

Q. Are you accepting Action or Scenery photos?
A. No. There are already many other great places online to contribute action and scenic photos. RailcarPhotos is dedicated to storing and categorizing railroad railcar photos.

Q. Can you scan my photos, or upload them for me?
A. No. Unfortunately, I do not have the time to scan photos for others. I have a hard enough time getting my own photos online. I will try to help with any questions you may have though.

Q. What are your photo requirements.
A. Only .jpg or .JPG photos are allowed. The file should be less than 1 mb in size. The dimensions of the photograph must be at least 800 pixels wide, but no wider than 1200 pixels.

Q. Can I upload someone else's photos?
A. To upload a photo, you must agree that it is your photograph, or you have full rights to it. I do not allow copyright infringement at all. All photographs belong to the original photographer. I only display them on this site. Please contact the original photographer about any questions you may have about the photo.
